Wayang Kulit Indonesia

Wayang is one of the large number of traditional cultures in Indonesia. Indonesian people believe that wayang derived from a word meaning 'shadow' or 'ghost'. But wayang is not always in 'shadow'. In ancient languages, the term wayang originates from two earlier words "Waya" meaning ancestors descending and "Ang" meaning a 'symbol'. On the other hand wayang also comes from the word "Ma Hyang" that means spiritual spirit, God or God Almighty.
There are many kinds of wayang and of them is Wayang Kulit. Wayang Kulit is the famous traditional form of puppetry in Indonesia, mainly in Java and Bali. Wayang, in modern Indonesian language, is loosely translated to mean puppet. Kulit means skin or leather, the material from which the figures are carved. Wayang kulit is a unique combination of ritual, lesson, and entertainment. Wayang Kulit is often showed in order to celebrate a wedding, especially in Java. There are four main components of a Wayang Kulit show including Dalang, Music and Wayang Kulit itself. Dalang is the shadow’s artist who plays Wayang Kulit on a taught linen screen with a coconut oil lamp or electric lamp.
